European Youth Meeting 2011 in Tallinn, European Capital of Culture 19-24 July 2011

European Youth Meeting for Sustainable Development 2011 will take place in Tallinn during the city’s tenure as the European Capital of Culture from 19th of July to 24th of July 2011 in Estonia on the theme of youth involvement in ensuring sustainable development to examine questions like what role can and should young people and youth organisations play in efforts toward sustainability?

 

For the Youth Meeting, more than 100 participants from all around Europe and other countries, committed to youth-led sustainable development, are expected to gather in Tallinn for a diverse program designed to harness the energy and passion of youth towards developing an effective strategy for sustainable development.

 

The specific objectives of the Meeting are:

-  To advance and encourage the participation of young people and youth organisations in international decision making-process on sustainable development.

-  To develop a multidisciplinary approach to sustainable development.

-  Through international cooperation exchange experiences, best practices and perspectives on sustainable development.

-  Through the use of web and video capabilities encourage the use of technological advancements to ensure sustainable development.

 

To develop at the end of the meeting a policy document called “European Youth for Sustainable Development” supplemented by an action plan. The document will be incorporated to a powerful policy statement to the authors of the Rio+20 Earth Summit Declaration and the Action Plan that gives direction to the dialogue by focusing on a product that requires the support of every young person on the planet.

 

Virtual Meeting:

A Virtual Meeting of the European Youth Meeting for Sustainable Development will also be organised through the official website www.eym2011.eu, for those who will not be able to participate in the meeting. People from all over the world can get involved through web capabilities and online broadcasting of the meeting events. They can share their ideas and visions of the results during discussions, working groups, skills workshops etc

EYM2011 Management Team wishes to thank everyone who applied to the European Youth Meeting for Sustainable Development 2011 either as a participant or as a facilitator. The International Management of EYM 2011 has received more than 500 applications for participants and 55 applications for facilitators. All applications will go through a rigorous evaluation process during the following weeks and you will be informed of the results by 6th of May 2011 the latest.

Preparation process for EYM2011

This and the following weeks will be very busy for the Management Team in terms of preparing for the Meeting itself. Through the selection process we will decide on the final list of participants and facilitators, the Meeting’s content will be reviewed and final decisions made and many other practical questions will be resolved. The Management Team will respond to all applicants and send a confirmation letter with further instructions to selected participants and also inform all who have not been selected on possibilities to still experience the Meeting.

The International Organising Team of European Youth Meeting for Sustainable Development 2011 and invited special experts are going to gather in Tallinn for the Preparation Meeting from 14th to 18th of April 2011 to finalise all content and technical details and to officially conduct the main work on the selection process.

Among the members of the International Organising Committee are representatives from

 

UK, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Latvia, Russia, Turkey and Moldova and included are experts from Stakeholder Forum, European Youth Forum, Tallinn City, universities and others.

The aim of the preparation meeting is to ensure effective cooperation between members of the International Organising Team and carrying out all necessary objectives of the Meeting.

EYM2011 Management has secured the support and partnership of European Youth Forum

At the end of weeks’ long negotiations, the European Youth Forum has agreed to be a partner in the organisation and implementation of European Youth Meeting for Sustainable Development 2011 in Tallinn.

Independently established by youth organisations, the European Youth Forum is made up of more than 90 National Youth Councils and International Non-Governmental Youth Organisations, which are federations of youth organisations in themselves. It brings together tens of millions of young people from all over Europe, organised in order to represent their common interests.
The European Youth Forum works to empower young people to participate actively in the shaping of Europe and the societies in which they live, and in improving the living conditions of young people as European citizens in today's world.
The European Youth Forum will spread information on the Meeting and serve as expert advisors in the process and Lloyd Russell-Moyle – expert and board member - will represent European Youth Forum at the Meeting.

There are still possibilities for becoming an official partner.

At If your organisation feels that they still wish to become a part of the process of European Youth Meeting for Sustainable Development 2011 you may still do so! We are looking for organisations who are committed to the advancement of sustainable development and who are willing to promote this event in their own country. We will, from our side, put your logo on official website of EYM 2011 and one representative from your organisation can attend the Meeting (but you have to cover your own travel costs). Send us your motivation letter, a profile of your organisation or all further enquiries to info at eym2011 dot eu before the end of April.

Opening Ceremony in old Town of Tallinn on the 19th of July 2011

A Preparations are underway to organise the official Opening Ceremony on the 19th of July in the Town Hall Square in the historic Old Town in Tallinn. The Ceremony will serve as the official introduction to the European Youth Meeting for Sustainable Development and will include high level representation from Council of Europe, European Commission, UN agencies, European Youth Forum, Stakeholder Forum, Estonian Ministries, Mayor of Tallinn, and embassies of participant nations and many others.

The official Ceremony will be opened by the President of the Republic of Estonia Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves.

The Ceremony will include cultural performances by Estonian and foreign artists and will be organised under the supervision of renowned Estonian choir director Aarne Saluveer. Full programme will be announced closer to the date of the Meeting
